The Antarctic Circumnavigation Expedition (ACE) reached Cape Town on Sunday, 19 March, completing its three-month voyage around the great white continent. But the scientific adventure has only just begun: it’s now time to analyze all the data that was collected. This will improve our understanding of the effects of global warming on the Southern Ocean and the broader implications for our planet as a whole.
On Sunday, 19 March, the Antarctic Circumnavigation Expedition (ACE) reached Cape Town, South Africa. This marked the end of its trek around the southernmost continent, which began in this same port on 20 December 2016. The expedition was organized by the Swiss Polar Institute (SPI) and carried by the Akademik Treshnikov, a Russian research ship. En ralliant le Cap, dimanche 19 mars, l’Antarctic Circumnavigation Expedition (ACE) a achevé son voyage de trois mois autour du grand continent blanc. Mais l’aventure scientifique ne fait que commencer. Il s’agit maintenant d’analyser les données récoltées dans le but de mieux comprendre les effets du réchauffement climatique dans l’océan Austral et ses implications sur l’ensemble de la planète.
L’Antarctic Circumnavigation Expedition (ACE) est arrivée dimanche 19 mars au Cap, en Afrique du Sud. En ralliant ce port, qu’elle avait quitté le 20 décembre 2016, l’expédition lancée par le Swiss Polar Institute (SPI) signe la fin de son périple autour du continent antarctique. Durant ces trois mois de voyage, quelque 150 chercheurs se sont succédés sur l’Akademik Treshnikov, le navire scientifique russe transportant l’expédition, pour mener 22 projets, sélectionnés parmi 93 propositions.
