Marine work during the Arctic Century Expedition
On 9 August at 17:10 Moscow time, the scientists began investigating the physical and chemical processes of the water column using a CTD-rosette. The CTD-rosette is a device that allows the sampling of seawater at predefined depths and also measures conductivity and temperature along the vertical profile of the water column. The seawater samples and environmental data are essential for all the scientific teams on board the cruise.
Although this was the first deployment, these operations will become a daily routine for the marine scientists onboard. At the moment, nine scientists from Russia, Switzerland, Germany and Mexico work around the clock in two shifts.
