Helicopter Underwater Escape Training (HUET) can be compulsory for scientists wishing to work in certain environments. For this reason, SPI collaborates with Air Zermatt to offer access to HUET certification organised in Switzerland and contributes to the costs of registration of scientific personnel affiliated to a Swiss research institution preparing field trips in polar regions.

SPI offers a contribution of 500.- CHF per person attending the course, on the condition that such participation be duly justified by relevant fieldwork such as airborne operations from a research vessel.

In Switzerland, Air Zermatt organises such training on an irregular basis. SPI will inform on upcoming courses with free capacity. Groups of six to eight people can arrange training on their own. Should no course be available in Switzerland during the required period, SPI can also support participation in HUET courses abroad.

The next HUET course will take place on:

  • 18 June 2025

Please note that for this particular course in June, content and physical requirements (e.g. swimming exercises) will be more advanced than usual.
